Sorry, companies in romania will not gladly pay you 10 times as much as locals because you are American.

The only reasonable way to get there is getting into a US company who will send you there. Everything else is bullshit, except you start your own business (export orientated or importing something could work) unless you are ready to work for some 400$ - 1200$ (lucky you) per month under bad conditions. Prices however are often not substantially lower than in other European Countries. something about the romanian economy if you want to see more: http://www.romania-central.com/economy-of-romania good luck

If you are young (max 30 years old) you might wanna go there and try to find a job. But of course, companies won't pay you more just because you're an American. And there is no exception, Romanian language is a must, no matter what kind of job or company you choose. Most important, jobs are being paid very little right now, about 30% less than last year, due to the crisis. The only field where you could find a job that pays you about 1000-1500$ are IT jobs, mostly as a programmer. Otherwise you should settle for about 400-500$, but don't forget the rent is in almost all the cities about 150 euros for a one-room apartment, 2 rooms about 250-300 euros. Bucharest has higher salaries, about 2000$ in IT, but the cost of living is roughly double then the rest. If I knew what your qualifications are I could help you with some more advice. But just as a hint, industry pays very badly right now, even if you are an engineer you won't find a job because the few foreign companies that invested in Romania over the past years aren't hiring right now. And if you are older, let's say over 40, you can almost forget it. The best way though in your situation would be to find an american company that would be happy to hire you there and send you work here. Another thing, when you relocate to Romania you also have to be very careful which region you would choose to live in. The differences between Transylvania and the Old Kingdom are huge and not to be overseen. Anyway, if you thing you have some more questions about this whole thing I might be able to answer them. You can write me at henkel46@yahoo.de Good luck!
